The global coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), internally displaced people are especially at risk. Whether they were forced to flee from their homes because of conflict, violence or disasters, thousands of IDPs in Mogadishu live in densely populated areas, are unable to self-isolate, and lack of access to water, sanitation and basic healthcare.

Habiba Abukar Ibrahim a 25 years old married and a mother of 4 kids in Daynile district Mogadishu. She is one of the internally displaced persons in Naciim IDP settlement in Deynile district, Mogadishu, Somalia. She and her family displaced from Boidoa in 2018 due to droughts and conflicts.

Habiba lives on casual labor by washing clothes for other families to earn some income to survive her and family "but since this Corona virus disease started, people are afraid; they do not allow us to enter their homes.” She said.

Her husband does not go for work due to COVID-19 pandemic; her husband used to work as porter in the Market but now he usually stays home for the sake of COVID-19 affected in the business.

"I first heard in the Radio early in 2020 about CORONA VIRUS but I did not know all about it before SCC Staff Hygiene promoters came to our camp to raise awareness”

Habiba is one of the people that had chance to meet SCC hygiene promoters and participated some awareness campaigns in the IDP settlement. "Now I understand that COVID is high risk to ourselves and community and I know symptoms and prevention of COVID-19 and can help my family and community to prevent COVID 19, it’s difficult for us as IDP family to make self-distance due to congested makeshift houses, we are not able to adequate access to health services to get CORONA tests or treatment in the IDPs but I encourage my loved one to use frequent hand washing and face masks to my family and community as well”.

"SCC distributed us soap, hand washing stations and free water to our IDP settlement thanks to SCC and SHF” she added.
"The COVID-19 can affect anyone in the IDP camps and all humanitarian agencies help us to mitigate the Corona virus by sustaining the awareness raising and preventive mechanisms of the virus” she recommended,
